Electrician - Electric Plant

The City of Painesville seeks applicants for an Electrician. This is technical maintenance work in the installation and repair of electrical and pneumatic systems, equipment, and control devices at the municipal electric generation plant.
Work involves the performance of tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. Assignments are made in the form of written or oral instructions and may be accompanied by sketches and blueprints. However, work also arises from inspections and troubleshooting. Work is normally performed independently, but all work is subject to inspection while in progress or on completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Makes studies relating to motors, motor controls, switching, relays, instrumentation, etc.
Keeps electrical equipment, such as wiring, motors, switches, and circuit breakers, in good repair and in operating condition.
Replaces defective wiring; runs conduits; makes connections to new electrical installations; and runs new connections/installations.
Calibrates, installs and maintains digital instrumentation panels, as well as dial instrumentation panels.
Checks, cleans, repairs and lubricates motors and recording instruments.
Keeps accurate inventory of all equipment and purchases for area. Install and upgrade computer hardware and software.
Installs and maintains wiring connections on control panels, fans, motors, sump pumps, indicating lights, smoke monitors, and oxygen analyzer systems, working from blueprints and sketches and possibly self-made drawings.
Maintains a variety of pneumatic equipment including relays, ring balance flow meter, level transmitter and meter indicator positioners, steam regulating valves, flow regulating valves, coal gates, and panel alarm.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Graduation from high school supplemented by courses in electricity, electronics, and pneumatics.
Experience: Experience in electrical work.
A different combination of education and experience may be acceptable if deemed equivalent.
License or Certification Required: Valid Class B commercial driver's license must be obtained within two (2) years of appointment and maintained thereafter.
Must obtain National Electric Code (NEC) Certification, NFPA course within one year of appointment to the position, and maintain said certification.
Physical Demands: Lift 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. occasionally; ability to carry 50 lbs. frequently; ability to climb stairs frequently and walk up to 8 hours a shift; ability to stoop, bend, twist, squat, and kneel frequently; ability to work in a dusty environment, in cold and hot weather, and in high humidity; ability to hear and speak clearly in a loud environment and over a radio; ability to work in areas of possible high noise B 87 decibel time weighted average; ability to wear a respirator
Desirable Training and Experience:
Knowledge of:
The standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
The occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
A wide variety of electrical and pneumatic systems, equipment, and control devices.
Basic welding.
Basic computer integration for control equipment.
Skill and Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
Locate and adjust defects in electrical and pneumatic systems, equipment, and control devices.
Prepare simple reports.
Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
